The Autumn 2019 tour of the new reimagined and reenergized Saturday Night Fever strutted onto the stage on Tuesday night at The Everyman Theatre in true seventies style. We asked local theatre enthusiast Jane to pop along to review the show for us, here is how she got on…
Saturday Night Fever tells the discotastic story of Tony Manero and the heartfelt ups and downs of his quest to become a dancer. With more hot drama, music and choreography than ever before, this new production of Saturday Night Fever is nothing less than a 70’s music and dance extravaganza. It took me less than a few minutes to engage in the story and swoon along to the slick smooth grooves and concentrated moves of Casualty’s Richard Winsor who expertly led the cast as Tony Manero.
Alongside the unbelievably realistic group playing the Bee Gees on stage, there were also impressive vocals from Faizal Jaye as DJ Monty, Natasha Firth as Annette in her endearing rendition of ‘If I can’t have you’ and Olivia Fines who was breathtakingly engaging in her portrayal of Stephanie Mangano.
With the best selling movie soundtrack of all time, Saturday Night Fever features the Bee Gees’ greatest hits including Stayin’ Alive, How Deep Is Your Love, Night Fever, Tragedy and More Than a Woman as well as ‘70s favorites Boogie Shoes, Disco Inferno meaning that you’ll be ‘dancing yeah’ right into the interval and beyond.
Saturday Night Fever is directed and produced by Bill Kenwright, with choreography by Olivier Award winning Bill Deamer, designs by Gary McCaan, lighting by Nick Richings and sound by Dan Samson. The stage adaptation is by Robert Stigwood in collaboration with Bill Oakes.
It’s ‘right here, right now’ until Saturday at the Everyman Theatre so don’t miss it!
