Stephanie Shaw, Personal Stylist at John Lewis & Partners Cheltenham, shares her top tips for ladies racing style, which are sure to inspire your look for the upcoming Cheltenham Festival.
1. All the frills
Frills and pouffy sleeves are all over the catwalk this season. Think prairie-style blouses and feminine hemlines peeping out beneath a statement coat.
2. Channel your inner Princess Di
80s fashion, in particular tailoring, is a key trend this year. We’re talking shoulder pads and coordinated suits. Long tailored shorts and oversized fits will add a contemporary feel to this look.

3. All about the coat
Let’s be honest, Cheltenham in March can be pretty chilly, so it’s important to invest in a coat that you can wear all day as a key part of your outfit. Go for something classic that you can wear again. Sustainability is a huge conversation in fashion at the moment and picking a coat that will give you cost per wear is key.
4. Be bold
Brights and bold colours are the way to go if you want to land that ‘best dressed’ title. Layer colours against each other for a striking contrast or go for a full colour drench with head to toe one colour. Maximum wow factor guaranteed!
5. Opt for a block heel
Luckily for us ladies, chunkier shoe styles are still very much on trend, which is ideal for race days as they are not only comfortable enough to help you last the day, but also decrease the risk of stilettos getting stuck in grassy areas. Win win!
Final thought for ladies race wear fashion…
Don’t forget to check the dress guidelines for your enclosure before you select your race day look, as some may require hats or a certain amount of modesty depending on the venue/day.
