Information for Coaches & Groups
Regency Cheltenham attracts over two million visitors annually, many who travel by public transportation, including coach. The following information aims to help coach companies and group organisers plan a memorable visit.
Royal Well bus station
Visiting during quieter periods - Out of town visiting coaches may stay in bays 1 to 4 on a free, first come and first served basis.
Visiting during busy periods - During events such as Cheltenham Festival race week and the Christmas markets, we ask coach drivers to please drop off and pick up in bays 1 to 4 and limit this to 15 minutes.
If no coach bays are available - Passengers should be dropped off as quickly as possible in the nearest empty bay. At the weekend coaches can then go to Kingsville Road, Kingsditch Trading Estate, GL51 9NZ.
Polite request - We ask coach drivers to take care not to block bus stops which are reserved for local scheduled bus services.
Meet & greet service - If you would like a ‘meet and greet’ service when you arrive, please contact Cheltenham BID on [email protected]. Please provide as much notice as you can for this free service. If possible, one of the friendly ambassadors will provide visitor information to your passengers so they can enjoy their time in Cheltenham. You may also find our downloadable Cheltenham Map handy.
Address - Royal Well bus station, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL50 9SA
Clarence Street drop off and pick up arrangements - If you are bringing a group who intend to visit The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum in Clarence Street there is a non-designated bus stop by the building for drop off and pick up only. This could also be used in case of bad weather, or if many passengers are elderly and/or have limited mobility. There is a café, toilets and a shop within The Wilson, all with disabled access.
Christmas market arrangements - As the coach station can be very busy at certain times the visiting coach bays are only available for drop off and pick up.
Book a guide - If you would like a guided walking tour of Regency Cheltenham please contact Around Cheltenham Walks and Tours or Anne Bartlett Blue Badge Tour Guide.
Travel to Cheltenham - Cheltenham can be accessed easily from the M5. J10 is best if travelling from north of Cheltenham and J11 if you are coming from the south. J10 has restricted access while J11 has full access in both directions. If travelling from the east (London or Oxford) or west (Gloucester, South Wales) then access is via the A40. Follow signs to Cheltenham Town Centre, the Royal Well bus station is located directly behind the Municipal Building and just steps from The Promenade and main shopping area.
