Bath Road, Leckhampton, Cheltenham

If you’re keen to live like a local, then Bath Road is your must-visit destination! This brilliant, bustling street is home to a wide variety of independent food shops, including butchers, bakers, and fruit and veg, mixed in with great cafes and pubs for your shopping pitstops, and some truly unique boutiques to stumble across too.

Originally named the ‘New Bath Road’, this great community space was historically a toll road into town, connecting the residential area of Leckhampton with the main High Street in town. Thankfully you can now visit for free, and it’s just a short walk to or from the High Street, as well as The Suffolks and Tivoli. For those coming by car, there are a few short-stay spaces at the roadside, or an affordable pay and display car park at Bath Terrace (turning by Natwest bank) and a second pay and display at The Norwood Pub, who refund a proportion of your parking if you stop to refuel.

There’s plenty along Bath Road to tempt even the hardiest of shoppers, with a wonderful blend of local conveniences, nestled alongside some gorgeously unique boutiques. It really is a space to enjoy the wonder of discovery, but just in case you’re pushed for time, we’ve listed some of our favourites...

Starting at the ‘top’ of Bath Road by the Norwood Pub, we have The Record Shop, home to all your vinyl music needs, sitting alongside K-Nine Studio which houses everything your dog desires, Rosa Blue for handmade gifts and interiors, and the Aroid Attic which caters to your every houseplant whim. Across the road you will also find Cook which offers the most divine pre-cooked meals, and Roots & Fruits which provides a traditional greengrocer experience.

Moving on through this community hub, you’ll spot Jackeroo Boutique, a brilliant destination for unique women’s fashion pieces, and the Inside Out gift shop for quirky and interesting gift ideas. For the bargain lover, it has to be the road’s charity shops and Red Cross Bookshop, which boast interesting and upmarket finds that you’re sure to love, and for the foodies, Bath Road provides a plethora of butchers and bakers, along with The Natural Grocery Store and Bath Road Beers.

Wining and dining on Bath Road, Cheltenham 

As a community and cultural hub, surrounded by residential spaces, Bath Road thrives as a food & drink destination in its own right. Home to no less than three pubs and a wine bar – The Norwood Pub, The Brown Jug, The Exmouth Arms, and Moran’s – this is a great place for indoor and alfresco wining and dining. For your light meal pitstops and mid-afternoon pick-me-ups, we’re huge fans of Brew & Bake and The Curious Café too.
