Lumière on Clarence Parade, Cheltenham is once again listed in Harden's Best UK Restaurants 2020.
For the past 29 years, the trusted guide has carried out an annual survey ranking restaurants throughout the UK based on reviews from the most important food critics – customers. This year’s top 100 restaurants are derived from 50,000 reports with ratings submitted by 7,500 diners. Lumière is deservedly listed as 20th on the list, up from 61st in 2018.
Harden's glowing review praises the food, staff and atmosphere of the restaurant and includes the following lavish statement... "Jon Howe’s food is “out of this world” with “some very good flavour combinations, some very clever and precise cooking” – all “without pretentious twiddles”. Click here for the full review.
Popular with locals and visitors alike, Lumière is a 3AA Rosette Award winning dining experience located just steps away from Cheltenham’s tree-lined Promenade. Chef Jon Howe and his wife Helen, the restaurant manager, opened the restaurant in 2009 and pride themselves on offering contemporary dishes created from the very best British and seasonal produce.
It’s fair to say the hardworking couple have had a mixed year of highs and lows in 2019. In the summer they celebrated winning the best restaurant in the Cotswolds at the Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards held at Cheltenham Racecourse. They were also delighted to be listed again in the Michelin guide and The Good Food Guide for 2019. The awards and recognition were a welcome pick-me up for the couple who had to temporarily close their beloved restaurant for 9 weeks due to Jon breaking his ankle.
Helen expressed her joy at the news of the restaurant's achievements in reaching number 20, saying, “Just to be listed in the Harden’s Top 100 Restaurant list is an amazing achievement but to be number 20, a rise of 41 places since last year, is just incredible and a true testament to our fantastic team after what has been a really rough year”.
David Jackson, Marketing Cheltenham Manager, added, “Huge congratulations to Jon, Helen and the whole team at Lumiere – another fantastic achievement and worthy recognition of their hard work and what is an incredible dining experience. This further highlights Cheltenham’s fast developing reputation as a foodie destination and the growing number of truly exceptional independent restaurants. Cheltenham is proud to have them!”
