Zero-waste shop, FoodLoose, has outgrown its current premises at 16 Portland Street on the premises of Global Footsteps. Following an extremely successful Community Share Offer scheme in December 2021, the refill shop secured over £60,000 of investment from nearly 100 investors, to enable them to find a bigger home.

After over 10 months of careful searching, FoodLoose’s volunteer management team have finally signed on the dotted line to secure Unit 1, 15 Grosvenor Terrace. Offering a bigger footprint, and increased footfall within this developing area of town, FoodLoose is set to make the move ready for a grand opening on Saturday 3rd December.

The Cheltenham Foodloose team

Cat Elton on behalf of FoodLoose Management Team said, “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to expand our vision for FoodLoose with these new premises. We were blown away by the support offered by our community to fund the move, and we can’t wait to see our dreams come to life as FoodLoose enters its next era”

FoodLoose will continue trading at their Portland Street address until Saturday 26th November, when it will be all hands on deck to move their vast range of products to the new store.

The grand opening on Saturday 3rd December will be just in time for shoppers to start stocking up on their Christmas goodies, as well as coinciding with FoodLoose’s 4th birthday.

ABOUT FOODLOOSE

FoodLoose is a refill shop in Cheltenham run by volunteers, with a focus on organic and sustainable produce.

FoodLoose is a local refill shop run mostly by volunteers from the director level to the shop floor. Set up in December 2018 as a response to the massive amount of plastic waste generated by mainstream shopping.

Take in your containers for refills of a variety of dry foods, household cleaners, kitchenware and beauty products, or take advantage of their online and drop-and-collect services.

THE JOURNEY SO FAR

FoodLoose was originally set up as a project by the Global Footsteps charity at the end of 2018 in response to the Plastic Free July campaign when a group of Cheltenham consumers realised that there was nowhere locally to buy loose food and household refills. Global Footsteps kindly offered the ground floor of their premises for a pop-up refills shop, and the FoodLoose project was born!

In June 2021, FoodLoose Limited was established as a Community Benefit Society, separate from Global Footsteps, and managed by a team of five people who were keen to help FoodLoose grow. The CBS type of cooperative ensures FoodLoose stays true to its main aim of benefiting the community. While customers are welcome to become members with an equal say in its future direction.
