Cheltenham’s own The Little Donut Stall moves towards greener energy

The Little Donut Stall is an independent family run contemporary street food stall that has been serving Cheltenham town centre since 2005. Until recently, the team has had to rely on generator power to fuel their completely self-sufficient stall.

With the hustle and bustle of the high street and passing traffic, the noise from the generator was hardly noticeable and the load was managed so the unit could run on eco settings and keep emissions as low as possible. 

But the Donut Stall team wanted to make a change for the better and have focused on living and working towards a more sustainable lifestyle for some time, making many changes and improvements to benefit both the business and the town. 

Over the last few years, they have cut their use of plastics, moving towards recyclable packaging, cutlery, and Vegware compostable cups and lids, as well as reducing wastage across the board. The next logical step was to move towards more sustainable means to power the stall. 

After a lot of research and expense, The Little Donut Stall has established an off-grid electrical system that easily meets the needs of the stall while reducing their overall carbon footprint. 

William Danter, owner of The Little Donut Stall, said: “Turning on our electric with zero generator noise or emissions first thing in the mornings has been so rewarding, with noticeably reduced noise levels in the high street before the hustle and bustle of the later day.

“I am very proud to say we really have improved the high street visitor experience as well as our own working environment with this investment”

In the future, the team plans to look into the possibilities of using solar panels to power the stall and charge the batteries, lowering the stall's carbon footprint even further with a completely off-grid solution.
