UPDATE - The Cheltenham Travel Festival has been postponed and awaiting a new date to be confirmed.
The inaugural travel festival will bring a world of travel experiences and expert advice to the heart of the Cotswolds.
Adding to its national reputation as a premier festival town, Cheltenham now has a new event, the Cheltenham Travel Festival.
Bringing together inspiring speakers, photography masterclasses, and representatives from some of the UK’s top travel companies, many of whom are based in Cheltenham, the festival aims to provide plenty of ideas and practical advice for festival visitors’ next travel experience or holiday.
“Travel seemed like a missing part from Cheltenham’s thriving festival scene, we plan to firmly fill that gap with this event. It’s certainly not just for armchair travellers, we want to inspire people to get out and experience places near and far. Travel can be a force for good, having a positive impact on the visitors, and the host communities they interact with; it’s a win-win”, says Byron Shirto the festival’s organiser.
Visitors to the festival will be able to see the winners and runners-up of the World Travel Photography Awards by JRNY travel magazine and learn about capturing that great image themselves. Kav Dadfar, JRNY’s co-founder and an award-winning travel photographer, says “We’ve had some amazing entries to the competition this year, and we can’t wait to unveil them in Cheltenham. I’m really looking forward to talking to people about my two favourite things: travel and photography.”
Visitors will be able to meet in person some of the UK’s most inspiring travel companies including Wild Frontiers, Steppes Travel, Coral Tree Travel, New Scientist Discovery Tours, and Holiday Architects as well as Tourist Offices including The Seychelles, and sustainable rail operator VIA Rail Canada, amongst others.
The festival is on the 3rd and 4th November 2023 at the Cheltenham Trust Pittville Pump Room in Cheltenham, further details and tickets are available on the Travel Festival website. Entry to the festival is £12pp and includes free Travel Talks, discounts on holidays, a tote bag with a complimentary copy of the coffee table JRNY magazine worth £10, and a chance to win prizes, including Bradt Guides, travel books and many other travel-related giveaways.
