The Greenway Hotel and Spa has been awarded ‘Bronze’ in the Green Tourism awards, which recognises the commitment of tourism businesses which are working to become more sustainable and are acknowledged worldwide as an indicator of strong environmentally-friendly practices.
The four-star hotel, which is based on Shurdington Road in Shurdington, appointed its first ‘Green Champion’ earlier in the year to lead on driving sustainability initiatives which make a difference across all areas of the hotel.
Some of the changes introduced include using more energy-efficient light bulbs, growing some produce on-site for its restaurant menus, reducing the amount of paper printed in its reception, and working with environmentally-friendly suppliers and local products.
The hotel’s Green Champion and Deputy General Manager Colleen Calderwood said: “I am incredibly proud of all of the team on the achievement of being awarded the Green Tourism Bronze accreditation.
“The team and myself have worked so hard and it is great to see the changes that we have made during this journey so far.
“It is wonderful to see how we all look for ways to alter our practises every day, from the simple things like turning out a light to investing in new cleaning products it all helps with what we as a hotel can achieve to reduce our carbon footprint.”
The Greenway Hotel and Spa is owned by the award-winning Eden Hotel Collection, and is one of five of its hotels to achieve Green Tourism honours this year.
Jayne O’Malley, Group Operations Director, said: “For our five hotels to achieve these awards within our first year of increased focus is extremely commendable, and a recognition of our Green Champion’s extensive efforts, along with their teams within their hotels.
“They should all be very proud of what they have achieved so far.
“We look forward as a group to enhancing our green practices and evolving procedures, while contributing to providing a cleaner, safer and healthier environment for all.”
