Christmas in Cheltenham kicked off with a spectacular and hilarious start this week as the beloved Tweedy the Clown caused merry mayhem at the opening of John Lewis’ Christmas Shop.
Tweedy, known for his charming antics and impressive circus stunts, delighted early Christmas shoppers with his signature mix of chaos, mischief, and comedy, bringing a smile to the faces of John Lewis’ customers. The appearance comes as Tweedy prepares to entertain audiences at the Everyman Theatre as he takes on the role of Tweedy Twankey in this year’s pantomime, Aladdin, which opens on Friday 29th November.
Joining Tweedy in John Lewis were representatives from Cheltenham Open Door, the Everyman Theatre’s 2024 pantomime charity partner. Cheltenham Open Door provides essential services to vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the local community, offering hospitality, warmth, food, and a safe space for those who need it.
From entertaining passing shoppers with his antics, which included treating himself to a festive makeover at the John Lewis makeup counters, to posing for photos in a flurry of Christmas decorations, Tweedy’s tricks filled an ordinary shopping trip with plenty of festive cheer, marking the joyful beginning of Cheltenham’s Christmas festivities.
John Lewis’ Christmas Shop, stocking Christmas trees, decorations, homeware, and gifts, is located on the store’s first floor and is now open to all shoppers.
The Everyman Theatre’s much-loved annual pantomime, Aladdin, runs from Friday 29th November until Sunday 12th January and promises festive fun and frivolity for audiences of all ages. Tickets are selling fast and are available from Everyman Theatre or by calling the Box Office on 01242 572 573.
