After last week’s half term laughs courtesy of the very funny and entertaining Tom Gates, it’s more comedy this week as Mel Brooks’ laugh out loud Tony Award winning farce The Producers takes to the stage at The Everyman Theatre Cheltenham.

Described as ‘hilariously irreverent’, The Producers tells the tale of Max Bialystock, a fading ‘King of Broadway’ producer who has fallen on hard times. Desperate for another success, Bialystock, finds an unlikely ally and friend in shy accountant Leo Bloom, who works out that they could make more money out of a Broadway flop than a hit. Together the pair set out to raise $2M dollars by producing the worst musical ever made with the worst director, cast and script they can find. What could possibly go wrong?

Adapted by comedy legend Mel Brooks from his own 1968 hit movie, which regularly polls as one of the funniest films ever made, The Producers is said to be a musical like no other. One which skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an equal opportunity offender!

Brooks smash hit comedy musical The Producers has been entertaining audiences around the world since its 2001 debut and is set to be one of The Cheltenham Operatic and Dramatic Society's most challenging and energetic shows to date. With a cast of 24, over 200 costumes and featuring a show full of show stopping numbers such as ‘I Want Be a Producer’, ‘When You’ve Got It Flaunt It’, and the unbelievable ‘Springtime for Hitler,’ this is one must see show.

Director Jason Blackburn says, “It’s a show unlike any other because it really spears the theatre world itself.  Part of the show’s charm is its ability to not take itself too seriously or take anyone else too seriously for that matter! Mel Brooks is one of the funniest writers not only of his generation, but of all time, and he has this ability to really nail down how ridiculous something is and The Producers is absolutely no different.”

It’s fast, fierce, shameless, vulgar and altogether blissful” New York Times.

“Delirious a feeling as you’ll ever experience in the theatre"  Hollywood Reporter.

“So much imagination, so much sheer pleasure” New York Daily News.
