It is no doubt that we saw another extraordinary renewal of the Cheltenham Festival this month, full of exceptional stories, creating moments in history for both participants and spectators, but the magic doesn’t stop after the Festival, The April Meeting is around the corner and after that Race Night, the only evening races, in May.

The April Meeting is a wonderful two-day meeting at the Home of Jump Racing, as always at Cheltenham there is something quite special and often spine tingling about the atmosphere. The spring sunshine shining over the famous Cleeve Hill and hallowed Cheltenham turf provide the perfect backdrop to a brilliant day out with high-quality racing.

It is a quieter meeting, compared to those in the thick of the Jump season and therefore a great opportunity to experience Cheltenham Racecourse for the first time. There is room to explore and experience the thrill and buzz of a day at the races. For the participants in the sport, having a winner at Cheltenham is the holy grail and the April meeting is no different, so whilst there is a relaxed and fun vibe around the racecourse, out on the track it will be as fast, furious and competitive as a race at any Cheltenham race day.

The Hall of Fame is a must visit destination at The April Meeting, walk around and absorb all the history and accolades to famous sporting greats.

Kids go free & free family fun

If you are attending with younger racegoers, there will be lots of Junior Jumper activities including arts and crafts for them to enjoy, as well as a mechanical horse (an equicizer), which the children can have a go on whilst wearing jockeys’ silks. Under 18’s entry into the racecourse is free of charge and there is no additional cost for the Junior Jumper activities. It is a great value day out for all the family.

You can get really close to the horses, whilst they are in the parade ring, before they go out to race. If you're planning on a little flutter, it is good to have a look at your chosen horse before you put your money down. It is also an opportunity for your children to choose what horse they would like to cheer for in the race. Having a horse to cheer for and shout home really gets you into the spirit of the sport.

When the horses leave the parade ring, that is your cue to go to the front to watch the race. There is such a buzz watching a race live, the cheers of your fellow racegoers will inspire your children to cheer along, even if the horse they’ve chosen isn’t in with a winning chance as they approach the line.

If you are a regular visitor to Cheltenham Races, but haven’t been to The April Meeting, we thoroughly recommend you do, it will give you the opportunity to explore and experience parts of the racecourse that you may not even know exist. You might even find the perfect viewing spot, that will become your own every time you visit, or a new place to enjoy a drink between races.

There is a vast range of delicious food and drink options, from pizza ovens to fine dining, so you will find something for you, your family or group to enjoy and there are options to suit all budgets.

So, whether you are looking for a family day out, you’re a seasoned racegoer or coming to Cheltenham races for the first time – you are sure to have a fabulous day at The April Meeting!
