After several months of uncertainty, Cheltenham Paint Festival officially announced in May that it would return to the town for its sixth year, and we couldn't have been happier!

Every July, the Paint Festival transforms empty walls in the town into breathtaking works of art. This year promises to be just as spectacular, with incredible street artists from across the globe getting ready to brush, spray and stencil their colourful creations over the streets of Cheltenham.

Below are just a few talented headliners announced for this year's festival so far...

Nina Valkhoff

Nina, @ninapelirroja, is an illustrator and muralist from Rotterdam who has become known internationally for her lively and colourful renditions of the natural world.

Having studied illustration at the Willem de Kooning Art Academy in Rotterdam. Her work can be seen worldwide on streets, apartment buildings, restaurants, offices, and shops. Covering walls with plants and animals, especially endangered species, to show the beauty of all wildlife and not just the cute or more common creatures of the world.

Dale Grimshaw

Dale, @dale_grimshaw, is widely recognised as one of the most powerful and talented street artists on the scene. Over the last 5 years, he has painted many festivals nationally and internationally and several iconic walls in London.

Dale's work is boldly figurative and is inspired by his strongly held humanitarian beliefs. Emphasising powerful, direct emotions and a deep empathy for his subjects. Dale continues to support the work of the Free West Papua campaign, which is opposed to the illegal occupation of West Papua by Indonesia.

Anna Charney

Charney, @annacharneyart, is a painter and muralist of abstract pattern works. She received her BFA in painting/drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has been living and working back in her hometown of Denver, Colorado since 2016. Charney has exhibited in galleries and painted murals across the United States and internationally in both Costa Rica and France.

Describing her illusionistic spaces and bending forms as “digital taffy”, Charney’s optical paintings and murals are characterized by their expansive compositions, graphic dot patterning and dense detail.

Emily Ding

Emily, @emilyding, is a muralist who draws inspiration from flora, fauna, and human temperament. Her large-scale work is characterized by expressive animals and figures, brought to life through bold colour gradients and a fluid, painterly style. Resonating deeply with the phenomena of the natural world, she aims to communicate emotions and experiences, through storytelling with wild creatures.

Jolien De Waele

Jolien, @kitsunejolene, is an artist based in Ghent, Belgium. A self-proclaimed autodidact muralist, with a background as an art historian masters dropout, she uses a variety of mixed media to create vibrant murals portraying people characterized by an emotional and dreamy feeling to them. Often working in details of mythology, storytelling, local folklore, and flora into the final piece.

Margay Art

Margot, @margay_art, is a self-taught French mural artist born in Grasse in 1990.

Her passion for nature and animal species is reflected in her first mural dedicated to a puma killed in a car accident in Tulum, Mexico where she lives.

Since then, she has participated in festivals and artistic residencies in France and Italy, always improving while remaining in line with her humanist and naturalist vision.

Guignard Antoine

Guignard, @aka_lpvda_artiste, describes himself as a 'storyteller of urban poetry by sanding old natural wood walls'. creating truly unique works of art armed only with a humble hand sander. You'll find him working his magic at Holiday Inn Express come the Paint Festival.

Sam Art

Sam, @sam_art_34, is a regular of the Paint Festival and has produced some incredible work for them over the years, focusing on stunning, photo-realistic portraits. Many were upset to see his beautiful piece taken from North Place Car Park earlier this year. So, for 2024, he's getting a permanent piece high above the gates of Cheltenham's Brewery Quarter, ensuring this year's mural can be admired for many years to come!

Of course, these are just the headliners. Over a hundred more amazing artists will be taking part across Cheltenham on the 27th and 28th of July. So, make sure to check out the festivals official Facebook page for all the latest updates.
