Cycling
Cheltenham’s town centre is readily accessible for all cycling abilities, being relatively flat and compact. On a bike you can easily cycle all over Cheltenham town centre on clearly marked cycle lanes or shared pedestrian / cyclists pavements in a day, hopping on and off to enjoy the many attractions at your leisure.
The Sustrans Honeybourne Line (NCN Route 41) connects the railway station to the centre of town and also forks up to Pittville Park and the Pump Rooms along an old railway track. This makes for easy and attractive cycling for all abilities and ages, because it is very picturesque, flat and most importantly traffic free.
Throughout town, the cycle network enables bikes to cycle along new contraflow cycle lanes connecting The Suffolks, Montpellier, the Town Hall and Imperial Gardens through to Sandford Park, the Lido and Cox's Meadow for instance. These two way cycle lanes enable cyclists to avoid congestion and have more accessibility than cars to the town centre.
Fancy a cycle tour and steam adventure or a quick lift?
GWSR also operate regular trains from their southern station at Cheltenham Racecourse up to Winchcombe and Broadway and they now accept bikes on board too. They hold festive and themed events throughout the year. Check out their website for more details.
Free bike parking is also easily accessible across the town centre and is highlighted in our maps and guides, including the Visit Cheltenham Map and Cheltenham Active Map making it a great way to get around for work or leisure, soak up the ambience, carry your shopping with ease and enjoy the fine hostelries and cuisine at your own pace and perhaps a festival or two!
