Public Transport
In the Town Centre, the majority of coach drop-offs will be at the Royal Well Bus Station, which is centrally located. For getting around Cheltenham, a very short walk will take you to the Promenade, along Clarance Street and to The High Street, where the majority of buses arrive and depart. From these locations, you can catch local buses to anywhere in Cheltenham, including to and from the Cheltenham Railway Station and Cheltenham Racecourse, or can take a bus out into the wider Cotswolds. The buses are categorised by number and letter depending on their destination. For instance, if connecting from Cheltenham Railway Station take bus service (D).
Stagecoach is the main bus operator in the area, serving Cheltenham’s Park & Ride and most local bus services. Go to the Stagecoach website for up-to-date timetables across Cheltenham where you can also download a free App which is recommended for regular visitors. Gloucestershire County Council also has a journey planner, bus route maps, live service updates, timetables, ticket pricing and more called Think Travel.
As an alternative to walking or taking the bus, there is also bike hire available from a number of locations across the town. To give you a guide, if walking to the Railway station along the traffic free Sustrans Honeybourne Line Route 41 directly from Royal Well, it will take approximately 20 minutes to walk or 10 minutes to cycle. (See Visit Cheltenham Map in Maps & Guides).
