Walking
The design and style of Regency Cheltenham centred upon visitors being able to enjoy walking and socialising at ease along fine, tree-lined promenades, through beautiful parks and among splendid architecture to make an enjoyable Spa experience... This is still largely true today!
Cheltenham’s compact town centre is best explored on foot or bike, so you won’t miss your car if you choose to leave it at home. Within 20 minutes you can walk from one side of town to the other making it easy to explore Cheltenham’s diverse range of attractions, cuisine and culture. The town is literally bursting and buzzing with activity.
For instance just walking from the town centre for…
5 minutes
You can enjoy the high street, the beautiful regency Promenade, The Brewery Quarter, the Wilson, Festival Hall and Gardens as well as easily connecting to Cheltenham Coach and bus station.
10 minutes
You can enjoy the continental feel of independent Montpellier, the Suffolks and Sandford Parks Lido and Pittville Park
20 minutes
You can enjoy a walk through Pittville Park to the Pittville Pump Rooms and jump on a train to anywhere in the country at Cheltenham Spa Railway Station.
Use the handy SW Cheltenham walking and cycling map and Cheltenham Active Map to plan your journey into town along quiet and safer routes suitable or a walking/cycling tour around town. If you'd rather have one to hand then pop into the Wilson to grab a hard copy when you arrive in Cheltenham.
Shopping Breaks
The Visit Cheltenham Map highlights the main shopping streets which are easily explored by foot, but if you are planning a shopping break you can also download more detailed maps of The Suffolks and Montpellier which are a ‘must’ for any shopping excursion.
If you normally head straight for The Promenade on arrival into Cheltenham, try walking a further 5-10 minutes to experience the unique shopping areas to the town centre’s southern fringe which is bursting with high end independent shops, cafes, restaurants and markets.
